As part of its ongoing commitment to linguistic inclusion and cultural exchange, Language Solutions was proud to support the Arbëresh Day and Diaspora Summit held in Tirana for the third consecutive year—an event celebrating the rich heritage of the Albanian diaspora and the historical Arbëresh communities of Italy. Organized by key government and diaspora institutions, the summit brought together participants from Albania, Italy, and the wider diaspora to strengthen connections and share development perspectives.

The Albanian Diaspora Summit, now in its third edition, is a high-level event held in Tirana that brings together members of the Albanian diaspora, institutional representatives, and policymakers from across the region and beyond. It serves as a platform to strengthen connections between Albania and its global communities, discuss diaspora engagement strategies, and celebrate shared heritage. A key component of this year’s summit was Arbëresh Day, dedicated to the Arbëreshë people—ethnic Albanians who settled in southern Italy between the 15th and 18th centuries. Known for preserving the Albanian language, traditions, and Byzantine religious rites for centuries, the Arbëresh represent a vital link between Albania and its historical diaspora.

The organizing team approached Language Solutions with a clear objective: to ensure fluent and culturally sensitive interpretation between Albanian, English, and Italian during the high-level summit and related events. The program included a variety of speeches, panel discussions, and ceremonial moments attended by policymakers, cultural leaders, and diaspora representatives from multilingual backgrounds.

In consultation with the organizers, we assessed the agenda, language combinations, and technical setup required. Based on this, we proposed simultaneous interpretation in all three languages, allowing participants to follow and engage in real time, regardless of their native language.

Given the nature of the event, it was essential to select interpreters who not only had strong command of the Albanian–English–Italian language combinations but also deep familiarity with topics such as diaspora engagement, Arbëresh heritage, and intercultural policy dialogue.

Our interpreter coordinator identified experienced professionals who had previously worked on cultural diplomacy and multilingual events. Special attention was given to selecting Italian interpreters who understood both the linguistic nuances and the historical-cultural ties between Albania and the Arbëresh communities of Italy.

We also gathered relevant preparatory materials, including event speeches, background documents, and historical context, which were shared with interpreters in advance. Terminology lists and cultural reference notes were compiled to ensure consistency and sensitivity throughout the event.

Language Solutions deployed a full-on-site simultaneous interpretation team to support the Arbëresh Day and Diaspora Summit, covering all three working languages: Albanian, English, and Italian. Given the cultural and linguistic diversity of the participants, it was essential to ensure that each session was accessible to everyone in their preferred language. Our team of interpreters was carefully selected for their fluency, subject-matter familiarity, and previous experience in high-level cultural and diplomatic events.

Working in pairs, interpreters provided full coverage across plenary sessions and panel discussions, smoothly managing speaker transitions and adapting in real-time to various speaking styles and formats. Sessions that required tri-directional interpreting, particularly those featuring Italian guests and representatives of the Arbëresh community, were handled with expertise and sensitivity, allowing for fluid and inclusive dialogue across all communities represented.

Language Solutions was fully responsible for delivering the simultaneous interpreting services on site. Our dedicated on-site coordinator remained present throughout the summit to oversee interpreter rotations, ensure smooth transitions between sessions, and serve as the main point of contact for both the interpretation team and the event organizers. By monitoring sound quality from the interpreters’ perspective and adapting promptly to any changes in the agenda or speaking lineup, our coordinator helped maintain the consistency and responsiveness of the language service, ensuring uninterrupted multilingual communication across all sessions.

Organizers expressed appreciation for the professionalism and fluency of the interpretation team, emphasizing how the inclusion of Italian interpretation made a meaningful difference for Arbëresh participants. The multilingual setup helped foster inclusive dialogue, enabling a more collaborative and respectful atmosphere for cultural exchange.

The Arbëresh Day and Diaspora Summit offered a unique opportunity to celebrate identity, preserve heritage, and strengthen ties across borders.
