Providing Expert Multilingual Support for a Sensitive Topic
In July 2025, Language Solutions had the honour of delivering relay simultaneous interpreting services for a high-level event held in Tirana, Albania, focused on the pressing issue of terrorist fighters in the Balkans. Organized with the participation of regional stakeholders, security experts, and international observers, the event demanded a high standard of linguistic precision, confidentiality, and real-time multilingual communication. The working languages, Serbian, Macedonian, and English, required not only a relay interpreting setup but also subject-matter expertise in complex security and geopolitical issues. With our extensive experience in high-stakes interpreting assignments, we were entrusted to make sure that communication flowed seamlessly across languages and cultural contexts.
Carefully Selected Interpreters with Regional and Thematic Expertise
Given the sensitivity and complexity of the topic, we knew that the success of this assignment would depend on the quality and readiness of our interpreting team. For this reason, we handpicked interpreters from the Balkan region who combined linguistic excellence with strong thematic knowledge in areas such as counter-terrorism, law enforcement, international relations, and defence cooperation. Our pool included professionals who had previously worked on similar international events and who demonstrated the ability to handle fast-paced, technical discussions with precision and composure. Every interpreter was thoroughly briefed and supported with preparatory materials to ensure consistency and confidence in the booth.
Coordination, Accuracy, and Real-Time Collaboration
Because of the specific language combination, this assignment required a relay interpreting setup, where interpreters in one booth listen to the output of another and then render it into their target language. This approach is commonly used in multilingual settings where direct interpretation between language pairs is not always available. In this case, for example, Serbian or Macedonian contributions were first interpreted into English, which then served as the pivot language for other language booths. Implementing this required not only excellent technical setup and sound clarity, but also synchronization and teamwork among the interpreters. We worked closely with both interpreters and technical staff to ensure that transitions were smooth, delays were minimized, and the audience received clear, uninterrupted interpretation throughout the sessions.
Preparation, Confidentiality, and Information Security
A key part of our preparation process was obtaining supporting documents and materials from the client ahead of the event. These included presentations, draft speeches, acronyms, and topic-specific glossaries. Our team ensured that these materials were securely shared and reviewed by the interpreters well before the event. Given the sensitive nature of the discussions, we placed special emphasis on confidentiality. All interpreters signed non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and followed strict internal protocols on data handling. Language Solutions also applied its standard confidentiality procedures, ensuring that both content and participant identities remained protected at all stages of the event.
Managing Regional Logistics for Interpreter Deployment
Because our interpreters were recruited from across the region, including Serbia and North Macedonia, we took responsibility for all related logistical arrangements. This included traveling and coordinating per diem payments. We also provided a dedicated on-site coordinator in Tirana, who served as the point of contact for both the client and the interpreting team. Their role was essential in handling last-minute adjustments, ensuring the interpreters had everything they needed, and maintaining real-time communication with the technical crew. By managing these operational aspects internally, we allowed the client to focus on the event itself, confident that interpreting services were fully under control.
