Language Solutions was honored to play a pivotal role in the Synergy Among Local Governments conference held in Tirana. The event brought together local government officials, policymakers, and regional stakeholders from various countries to discuss opportunities for greater cooperation in addressing shared challenges. With sessions of the conference conducted in multiple regional languagesincluding English, Albanian, Macedonian, and Serbian, we provided multilingual interpretation services to ensure all 100 participants could engage in meaningful dialogue. Our involvement was crucial in facilitating the exchange of ideas and fostering a collaborative atmosphere for advancing regional cooperation.

The planning process began with an in-depth consultation to assess the linguistic and technical requirements of the conference. Given the diverse linguistic backgrounds of the participants, it was determined that English-Albanian, Macedonian-English, and Serbian-English would be the primary language pairs for interpretation. As part of the multilingual conference planning, the event included plenary sessions, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, demanding careful event language coordination to ensure comprehensive language coverage throughout.

Detailed discussions on the event’s program, speaker lineup, and key topics helped inform the creation of a tailored interpretation plan. This plan incorporated both simultaneous and consecutive interpretation, addressing interpretation logistics and ensuring that all sessions, large or small, could be understood by participants in their preferred language.

Given the multilingual and multicultural nature of the conference, we ensured the selection of interpreters who were not only fluent in the required languages but also knowledgeable about the specific topics being discussed, such as regional cooperation, local government governance, and policy development.

We worked closely with experts from the region, selecting the best interpreters with extensive experience in Serbian, Macedonian, and English. Many of these interpreters are longstanding collaborators with Language Solutions, and we regularly work with them on similar high-profile events.

Our interpreters received detailed preparatory materials, including talking points, speaker notes, a glossary of terms, and background information related to the conference’s agenda. These resources covered topics such as local government, regional collaboration, and Balkan geopolitics. This thorough preparation was critical to ensuring that the interpretation was accurate and precise, enabling participants to fully understand and contribute meaningfully to the discussions. We also took care of the interpreters’ transportation, accommodation, and logistical arrangements, guaranteeing they were well-prepared and arrived at the event fully equipped to deliver high-quality interpretation services.

For the main presentations, simultaneous interpretation was provided, enabling real-time translation between English, Albanian, and the other required languages. This service was crucial for maintaining the flow of the conference, particularly during high-paced plenary sessions and interactive discussions where participants needed immediate access to the content in their preferred language.

Using advanced simultaneous interpretation equipment, including soundproof booths and wireless receivers, participants were able to listen to the interpretation in real-time, without any delays. Our team worked seamlessly to ensure that all messages were delivered clearly and efficiently, maintaining the integrity of the speakers’ original intent while adapting the language to the different cultural contexts of the audience.

Given the complexity of this event, relay interpreting was also required— a method used when direct interpretation between two languages isn’t available, so the message is first interpreted into a common language (usually English), and then reinterpreted into the target language. In this case, interpreters worked in three separate booths to cover all language combinations: English, Serbian, Macedonian, and Albanian. This setup allowed us to provide continuous interpretation, ensuring everyone could follow and engage with the content without interruptions. The logistical coordination involved in managing three interpretation booths was crucial, requiring precise timing, technical support, and seamless communication between teams to maintain the flow and accuracy of interpretation throughout the event.
